Built for the future of education

Education Services Australia (ESA), a national leader in delivering digital education services, partnered with Zeroseven to transform its outdated corporate website into a modern, secure, and flexible platform. The project focused on improving content autonomy, performance, accessibility, and security—key challenges for large organisations managing diverse stakeholder groups.

The Challenge

ESA’s previous site no longer met its operational or brand needs:

  • An outdated CMS restricted content updates, with content authors relying on developer intervention for even minor changes.
  • The design and user experience no longer reflected ESA’s role as a forward-thinking organisation in the education sector.
  • The infrastructure lacked scalability and failed to support the rapid evolution of digital service expectations.
  • Security and governance controls were fragmented and insufficient for a national organisation.

Our Solution

Zeroseven delivered a complete rebuild on Umbraco, hosted securely in Microsoft Azure, with access management via Microsoft Entra ID. Key features included:

Modern tech stack

  • Latest version of Umbraco CMS for extensibility and long-term viability
  • Microsoft Azure hosting for performance, scalability, and compliance
  • Microsoft Entra ID integration to support granular access control and improved governance

Editor autonomy and workflow efficiency

We designed a suite of custom, reusable content components—allowing ESA's internal teams to publish and manage content without technical assistance. This unlocked workflow efficiencies, accelerated publishing timelines, and improved internal agility.

Inclusive UX and design

We prioritised accessibility and usability for a broad audience—educators, government stakeholders, internal staff, prospective employees, and students. The user journeys and site architecture were informed by a robust discovery phase involving workshops and persona mapping.

Key outcomes

  • Significantly improved accessibility, adhering to WCAG 2.2 AA standards
  • Streamlined internal governance through secure role-based access
  • A design that authentically represents ESA’s innovation, integrity, and leadership in the education space

Breaking barriers for efficiency and access

Before the rebuild, ESA’s website faced several limitations—from an outdated design to a lack of direct CMS access for content authors. These challenges created bottlenecks and made it difficult for the platform to reflect ESA’s leadership in educational technology.

Through a strategic rebuild, these barriers were transformed into opportunities. By implementing Umbraco with custom content tools and secure access via Microsoft Entra ID, ESA’s internal teams were empowered to manage and update content with ease. The new site architecture and design now tailored to better serve a diverse audience—including educators, staff, students, and stakeholders—making navigation more intuitive and content more accessible.

Security and compliance are also significantly strengthened through modern infrastructure and refined access controls. What was once a fragmented and inefficient system is now a streamlined, secure, and user-friendly platform built to support ESA’s evolving digital needs.

Zeroseven worked with Education Services Australia to design and develop our new website.  We are delighted with our website, which has a fresh, modern design which reflects our values and purpose.

The site is easy for our team to manage, and we have ongoing support from Zeroseven as well.  We had clear communication and effective project management from the Zeroseven team throughout the development process.
